German-French Economy Award

Kelvion, Technip and Wieland win the German-French Economy Award in the category for Innovation and New Technologies

On Wednesday, 2 December 2015, the German-French Economy Award was granted for the third time in Paris for exemplary German-French cooperation in activities involving industry, environment, innovation, human resources and startups. The award was established in 2011 through an initiative of the German-French Chamber of Industry and Commerce under the patronage of the German and French ministries of economy. Every two years, German and French companies are presented with this award for exemplary cooperation projects between both countries.

More than 400 leading French and German personalities from business and politics were invited to the award ceremony at the Pavillon Gabriel, including Günther Oettinger, EU Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society, Iris Gleicke, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for SMEs and Tourism, and Matthias Feikl, State Secretary of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In the category for innovation and new technologies besides the consortium consisting of Kelvion, Technip and Wieland also , BASF France SAS applied for the award within the category Innovation with an agricultural project and CANSON SAS with an application from the chemical engineering field. Kelvion had applied with the DIESTA joint project. DIESTA has been developed under the R&D partnership between Kelvion, Technip and Wieland.

DIESTA, short for “dual internally and externally structured tube for air coolers,” is an innovative finned tube technology that applies enhanced surfaces. It was developed for dedicated applications in air-cooled heat exchangers, especially in the field of natural gas liquefaction. For use in LNG plants, it offers improvement in heat exchange efficiency of up to 20 %, reduction in CO2 emissions by lowering specific fuel gas consumption, and increase in LNG production as a result of power savings achieved.

This award acknowledges the excellence and innovation of this consortium, as well as close French-German collaboration.

2.5 million euro investment: Wieland-Werke AG develops an energy-efficient casting line – funded by the Free State of Bavaria

Lost-foam casting enables more efficient production of complex copper components.

How can complex-shaped copper components be manufactured economically and energy-efficiently? And how can energy be saved along the entire process chain and particularly during casting? These questions are addressed by Wieland with the EnerGuss project. Based on lost-foam casting, Wieland, as a manufacturer of copper semi-finished products located at Vöhringen/Bavaria, has commissioned a new research facility in order to produce test components and small-series quantities.
