The spray forming process falls between conventional casting processes and powder metallurgy.

The fact that major process steps of powder metallurgy are circumvented and that spray-formed billets can be further processed into rods, tubes, wires and sections with any conventional forming process results in cost savings compared to products which are manufactured by powder metallurgy.
