EDC Flooded Evaporator

EDC flooded evaporators are modular shell-and-tube heat exchangers for air-cooled chillers in data center cooling. With cooling capacities from 500 to 2,000 kW and approach temperatures as low as 0.5 K, they combine high efficiency with a compact design. The connection-free shell side simplifies assembly and maintenance, while the modular concept helps chiller manufacturers scale production to keep pace with data center projects.

EDC Flooded Evaporators – Modular Evaporators for Data Center Chillers

The EDC flooded evaporator from the DC Mod Series is built for air-cooled chillers in data center cooling. Enhanced boiling tubes and uniform gas distribution enable approach temperatures as low as 0.5 K. The connection-free shell side and compact, modular design make assembly, maintenance, and scaling easier for chiller manufacturers.

  • 500-2,000 kW cooling capacity

  • Temperature approach as low as 0.5 K

  • Flexible water-side layouts: 1, 2, 3, or 4
  • Up to 2 separate refrigerant circuits

  • Connection-free shell side

  • Integrated subcooler/superheater

Technical Characteristics

Refrigerant enters the shell at the bottom through a refrigerant inlet distributor and evaporates on a bundle of enhanced boiling tubes. A refrigerant outlet distributor at the top ensures uniform gas flow across the full length of the evaporator. Water flows inside the tubes: hot water enters and cold water leaves through the water heads.

An integrated subcooler/superheater with its own connections reduces the risk of liquid entrainment. Since the shell side is connection-free, all connections sit on the end plates. This gives you maximum flexibility for assembly and maintenance. The compact design supports full modularity of the entire chiller for faster production and easier scaling.

  • Enhanced boiling tubes for efficient heat transfer
  • Refrigerant inlet and outlet distributors for uniform gas flow
  • Integrated subcooler/superheater to reduce liquid entrainment risk
  • Connection-free shell side for flexible assembly and maintenance
  • Compact, modular design for scalable chiller platforms
