Wieland and Munich Electrification combine their expertise in joint brand QULECTRA

  • Joint venture offers advanced battery sensors for e-mobility applications
  • Combination of materials and electronics expertise
  • Market launch of the products at end of September

At the beginning of July 2022, "Wieland and Munich Electrification GmbH" was founded, which resulted from a partnership of several years between Wieland-Werke AG and Munich Electrification GmbH. The two companies combine their competencies in the field of shunt precision resistors for a wide variety of battery management systems in applications in the field of electromobility under the brand "QULECTRA".

"The combination of materials and electronics know-how enables us to successfully position the joint venture in the field of battery sensors in order to participate even more heavily in the megatrend of e-mobility in the future," explained Roman Vorndran, President of the Wieland Group's Business Unit Engineered Products. Shunt-based precision resistors are used in numerous automotive, industrial and private applications for current and voltage monitoring in energy systems.

Combining materials and electronics expertise

With QULECTRA, Wieland and Munich Electrification are jointly taking the next step in the development of precise current sensors with the highest safety requirements, which are pioneering for a sustainable future – especially with regard to increasing networking and the electrification of traffic and transportation.

Both companies are combining their strengths in this newly founded start-up: on the one hand, 200 years of experience in the field of copper materials and processing into customer-specific components, and on the other hand, solid expertise in the field of battery electronics development.

Product launch

The market launch of the QULECTRA products starts at the end of September. Sensors will be available in two versions - as a basic solution (Q-Basic) and as a smart variant (Q-Smart) with additional software functions. "It is the right way forward to bundle tradition and innovative power at eye level in this joint company. Our customers can already look forward to exciting new products from QULECTRA," underlines Georg Friedrich Graf, CEO of Munich Electrification.
