Wieland hosts Senator Tammy Duckworth at its East Alton manufacturing facility
On October 6th, Wieland, an industry leader in manufacturing and converting copper and copper alloy, hosted U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth for a tour of its East Alton, Illinois facility. During the tour, Sen. Duckworth visited Wieland's brass mill and cupping facility and heard more about the company’s history in Illinois. Wieland's brass mill was built shortly after Franklin W. Olin founded the Equitable Powder Company at the location in July 1892.
Sen. Duckworth shared remarks with guests of the event regarding the significant investments of the Federal Government into reshoring the semiconductor supply chain onto U.S. soil and revitalizing American infrastructure to support businesses nationwide.
“I was glad to tour Wieland and see their work to support good-paying union jobs, workforce development and our national security through manufacturing right here in the Metro East,” said Duckworth. “We made sure to discuss how the CHIPS Act is helping lower costs, create jobs and boost American manufacturing. I was proud to vote for it to save money for working families, make sure our nation can remain competitive with China and keep our economy moving in the right direction for generations to come.”
Wieland is one of the world’s leading suppliers of semi-finished copper and copper alloy products. In North America, the company has more than 2,700 employees in 31 facilities across the United States. Within Illinois alone, Wieland has more than 1,350 employees across 7 facilities.
"We were very pleased to host Senator Duckworth in East Alton, to showcase our work and to highlight our skilled workforce. During the tour, we were able to share firsthand where the majority of small-caliber munitions for the U.S. military and NATO as well as material provided to the U.S. Mint commence,” said Greg Keown, President of Wieland Rolled Products North America. “Today, Wieland is a primary supplier supporting vehicle electrification and e-mobility. We are proud to be part of the automotive industry transformation as well as the revitalization of American manufacturing, while contributing to the decarbonization of the planet. Senator Duckworth has been a strong advocate for manufacturing in Illinois, and we appreciate her continued support."
