"LEW Innovation Award" for Intelligent Energy Solutions

The LEW (Lech Werke AG - Electricity Company) Innovation Award Intelligent Energy, which is endowed with a total of 45,000 euros, honours ideas and measures that set an example for forward-looking projects in climate protection and the efficient use of energy. In selecting the best projects, a high-ranking jury assessed the degree of innovation, the contribution to climate protection and energy efficiency, the economic viability and the transferability of the projects.

Wieland-Werke AG was awarded 3rd prize out of 180 applicants for the project "Heat concept future". This involves the recovery of heat from production plants at all temperature levels and heat distribution in the Vöhringen plant. The prize was awarded for the many years of consistent and interdisciplinary implementation of a wide range of measures, underpinned by the example of a continuous furnace at the Vöhringen plant. By combining several measures, this achieves a heat recovery rate three times higher than that of a standard system. An optimized plant connection and control system also reduces pipe losses when transporting the required process heat. The share of heat recovery from production waste heat in heating energy consumption has now reached 40 percent, and the aim of the heating concept is to increase this share to 75 percent in five years' time.
