Wieland Officially Launches Recycling Center in Kentucky

  • Wieland announces an investment of $100 million for the establishment of its recycling and refining center in North America
  • The site will leverage the latest and most efficient technology to enable the recycling of a broad range of metals and alloys
  • The recycling center will be located in Shelbyville, KY, and employ approx. 75 people

“Wieland is excited to announce our latest recycling endeavor in North America. Many thanks to the state of Kentucky and Shelby County for their tremendous display of support.The given incentives solidified our decision to proceed with this foundational investment, which will pave the way for further growth in recycling here. We look forward to working alongside our current and future suppliers to find new ways to create value together," said Matt Bedingfield, President of Recycling, Wieland North America and SVP of Global Metal Procurement.

With this endeavor, Wieland takes a major step underlining its commitment to sustainability and carbon neutrality, acknowledging the strong demand for high-recycled content metal from both its customers and end consumers. Wieland’s customers can continue to count on Wieland to deliver the highest quality products and solutions with the best service and delivery performance.

Shelby County Judge/Executive Dan Ison said Wieland will play an important part in the community’s continued growth.

“As Shelby County Judge/Executive, I am excited to announce a major industry is joining our Shelby County team,” Judge/Executive Ison said. “Industry plays a major role in the quality of life we are known for. Wieland North America is a business leader who will lead by example as they grow their business.”

The new site will leverage the infinite recyclability of copper and serve as both a hub for closed-loop recycling, as well as a refining center of third-party scrap utilizing state of the art equipment and technology.

Operations at Wieland’s recycling center in Shelbyville, KY are expected to commence in late 2022.
