Climate protection is a key part of our sustainability strategy. By 2045, we aim to achieve net zero emissions in our business operations. Our medium- and long-term targets are focused on consistently reducing CO₂ emissions. At the same time, our products actively contribute to the global energy transition and thus effectively support climate protection.

As a company with energy-intensive production processes, we are pursuing a comprehensive decarbonization strategy. Our goal is to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by -46.2% and Scope 3 emissions by -46.2% by 2030 compared to 2019/20. By 2045, we aim to achieve net zero emissions. From that point on, there should be no activities with negative climate impacts along the value chain.
To achieve our net zero goal, we are focusing on four strategic measures:
We are implementing our climate strategy step by step and making measurable progress in the process. The measures we have taken so far clearly demonstrate how we are systematically driving decarbonization forward.
We are investing approximately $600 million in the modernization of our facility in East Alton, Illinois, USA. The construction of a state-of-the-art, energy-efficient rolling mill strengthens our position as a reliable and sustainable manufacturer of semi-finished copper products and further improves our emissions inventory.
With our solar park in Erbach, we operate one of the largest corporate solar parks in southern Germany. Generating approximately 22.6 GWh of electricity in the 2024/25 fiscal year, it supplies our German Wieland locations with renewable energy and makes a significant contribution to achieving our climate targets. Expanding our in-house production of electricity from renewable energy sources is part of a comprehensive strategy: In addition to the solar park in Erbach, we are investing in rooftop solar projects at our locations around the world.
At Wieland, we are looking ahead: In addition to solar power generation, we will also be focusing on wind energy in the future. We plan to build up to five wind turbines in Germany, with operations set to begin in early 2029. This project is a key component of our strategy to reduce CO₂ emissions and ensure a long-term supply of electricity from renewable energy for our German production sites.
